MST Dance Performance Acro Trick

Acro combines the excitement of tumbling with classical dance technique. Acro is defined by smooth transitions and the integration of athletic "tricks" into expressive choreography. We teach skills using "trick families" so students of any ability can join.

Acro dance, as a distinct performance style, first emerged in North America in the early 1900s. It developed as a fusion of dance and acrobatics within the Vaudeville circuit. Following the decline of Vaudeville, the style evolved by integrating ballet technique as its foundation. This shifted it from "acrobatics set to music" to a formal dance discipline.

Ballet is often regarded as the most elegant art form of dance, while being one of the most physically & mentally demanding professions. The classical training creates unique beauty in choreography and gives a strong foundation for Acro, Contemporary, and Jazz.

Ballet has a history rooted deep in European culture starting in the15th and 16th-century by Italian Renaissance courts as elaborate entertainment for nobility. Catherine de' Medici later introducing Ballet to France where it further developed into a formal art form, leading to the first documented ballet, Ballet Comique de la Reine, in 1581.

MST Dance Performance Solo Nevi

Tap offers incredible musicality and rhythm development for dancers of all ages. A percussive American art form characterized by the use of metal-plated shoes to create rhythmic sounds against a floor, Tap functions as both dance and a form of musical instrumentation.

Tap dance as we recognize it today was formalized in the 1920s when metal plates (taps) were first screwed onto the toes and heels of dance shoes, allowing for louder, sharper sounds. Through the 1930s to 1950s, Tap reached its peak popularity through Hollywood films and Broadway, featuring icons like Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Fred Astaire.

MST Dance Performance Contemporary

Contemporary takes the core of Ballet and infuses natural movement, floor work, and improvisation to create emotionally compelling works of art!

Contemporary dance emerged in the mid-20th century (1950s–1960s) as a rebellion against the rigid structures of classical ballet and the codified techniques of early modern dance. It was developed by pioneers like Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, and Martha Graham, who sought more expressive, fluid, and often improvisational movement.

Hip Hop offers a variety of rhythmic movements for spunky routines from influential artistic and cultural movement that emerged from the Bronx, New York City, during the early 1970s.

Hip Hop was created on August 11, 1973, during a house party in the Bronx, New York City. DJ Kool Herc (Clive Campbell) introduced a revolutionary technique of using two turntables to isolate and extend the "break" in funk records, creating the foundation for the genre. The event occurred at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, marking the birth of a cultural movement.

Jazz dance developed alongside jazz music in the early 1900s, with New Orleans cited as a primary origin point. Originally a social, improvised dance form shaped by vaudeville and ragtime, it transitioned into a distinct theatrical, choreographed, and technical style between the 1930s and 1960s, heavily influencing Broadway and Hollywood.
